Fall beginner cohort for 2026 begins in September. Sign up no later than August 20, 2026.
Spring beginner cohort 2027 begins late April / after thaw. Sign up no later than March 31, 2027.
Summer session gives priority to Shinsa candidates. Students who have finished beginner training at either location may shoot year round.
NW Recreation Center registration is transferrable to the private range.
Which Location Should I Join?
Both are fine places to start. The NW Recreation Center is indoors and climate controlled, but time restricted, and a higher cost. The private range is more flexible on scheduling, and a lower cost, but subject to the elements. The outdoor range also does not yet have a shooting platform. Shinsa candidates will not be able to use the outdoor range exclusively to prepare for their test.
Is My Membership Transferrable Between Locations?
If you are an active, experienced member of the NW Recreation Center, you may practice at the private range at no additional charge. Unfortunately, the reverse is not possible.
Is There a Difference in What's Taught Between Locations?
Both locations teach kyudo according to the kyohon, although the teachers are different. Full distance shooting at the private range is not permitted until you've completed the beginner's rubric.
